EU Regulations
On 14 December 2019 , the new EU Plant Health Law (Regulation (EU) 2016/2031) enters into application.
This modernised legislative framework has the overarching objective of implementing effective measures for the protection of the Union's territory and its plants, as well as ensuring safe trade from a biosecurity point of view, and helping the mitigation of the impacts of climate change on the health of crops and forests.
These new rules have resulted in a number of changes to the import of fresh produce. EU Regulations for NZ product are best sourced from MPI's EU ICPR .
However in addition to these there are two document released in December 2019 which provide good background and a number of details not included in the EU ICPR .
These are
1) A comprehensive document prepared by Freshfel (the European Fresh Produce Association ). It is targeted at Freshfel’s stakeholder but contains a lot of information that looks as though it could be useful to New Zealand Exporters as well.
2) A summary produced by the Southern Hemisphere Association of fresh fruit exporters . This has an exporters perspective and is shorter and is a useful summary of what will be required
